From Victim to Survivor... to Active Citizen

Women for Women International mobilizes women to change their lives through a holistic approach that addresses the unique needs of women in conflict and post-conflict environments.

They begin by working with women who may have lost everything in conflict and often have nowhere else to turn. Participation in their one-year program launches women on a journey from victim to survivor to active citizen. They identify services to support graduates of the program as they continue to strive for greater social, economic and political participation in their communities.

I was watching Oprah and was so moved to tears by this organization that I immediately went on their website and began the process of sponsoring a woman. I am now sponsoring a woman and I am filled up beyond measure to watch as she and her family begin to slowly rebuild their lives. It is only $27.00 a month and she receives water, food, and shelter for herself and her children. This money has also assisted her with a loan to begin her own business.
