What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are highly concentrated aromatic extracts derived from plants through distillation of a variety of plant material. Although some plants are extracted via cold pressed process, or CO2 extraction, or solvent extracted.  Aromatic plants can be extracted from the following plant material: grasses, leaves, flowers, needles, twigs, peel of fruit, wood and roots.

Essential oils, which are harvested from various plants parts by distillation, are composed of many different components. The chemical ingredients give to each essential oil the scent of the essence. Some of these components have more odor than others, but the totality of the components are the eponymous scent or odor of the plant. By the nature of heat or steam (heat) and subjecting the plant to steam distillation, the odor of the resultant essential oil is not exactly the odor of the living plant. And distillation produces some ingredients in the essential oil that are not present in the living plant. As an example, one of these new components is the azulene produced the by the destructiveness of the distillation of Chamomile. Essential oils have scent, but they also have color, viscosity, and taste.
